> Almost A[pounds sterling]23,000 has been spent on sprucing up the building in the last year, with works completed inside and out.
The roof has been repaired, a new ceiling put up, insulation installed and doubled-glazed windows put in, while major repairs have been carried out to the disabled access ramp.
There has also been refurbishment, with fresh paintwork, doors and lighting.
The management committee plans to make small improvements to the kitchen, which has already been re-painted, and another A[pounds sterling]15,000 will be spent on a new heating system.
Committee Chairman Vera Filer said: “We have done a certain amount of renovation of the hall, which was in a desperate state of repair.
“The double-glazing has made a tremendous difference and the clear windows have given us a beautiful view down the river.
“We now have a wonderful venue. It has always been a wonderful place for children’s parties, but it is even more appreciated now and we have had lots of families commenting on how good it is.”
But the hard work will not stop there as the committee hopes to raise an extra A[pounds sterling]45,000 for an extension to provide storage space and a disabled toilet a and there is even the possibility of adding solar panels.
“We have done quite a lot already, but at the moment the spare chairs and tables are stacked about wherever we can put them so the next phase is to have an extension built to hopefully cover all of our storage needs,” said Mrs Filer.
“We would also like to put a disabled toilet in, which has been on the cards for quite a while.
“It’s difficult to say how long it will all take a how long is a piece of string? Our refurbishment committee is chasing grants all of the time.
“Assuming we can raise the money in the next 12 months it will be done as soon as possible, but we know it is quite a lot of money to raise and it might not be as quick as that.”
